It's a beautiful day at Lake Rotoiti, where the women are beautiful and the men can all back trailers. (Well, that's not quite true - quite a few of the women can back trailers and the men are not bad looking).Sometimes I listen to music while I paint (think this one was done to Freddy Mercury), sometimes I paint in silence. But what I really enjoy is painting to the Prairie Home Companion. I don't want to get fired up listening to current affairs and politicians, I don't want to listen to commercial radio telling me how many sleeps till Christmas and I don't wish to listen to someone else's choice of music. The PHC is full of gentle wit, good stories and singalong foolishness which is not too distracting, yet interesting enough to follow. Unfortunately the radio reception here is via satellite, unless you stand on the rocks and hold an aerial up (hard to do while you're painting), so until one of my technologically savvy kids sorts this for me I have to sing along to my ipod. It's interesting how different kinds of music affect my paintings - Faure results in dreamy, atmospheric work, while David Bowie makes me paint fast and furiously!
