So - delete! Out you go! Off with your head!
Then, I paused to take another look before I pressed the button... each time we leave Wellington on the ferry I spend the first half an hour looking back over the city where I've lived most of my life, each hill and skyline familiar, each bay with memories of picnics, fishing, bike rides. Then we pass Barrett's Reef and I spot the South Island in the distance- homeward bound at last. I wave goodbye to Wellington and fix my sights on Mt.Tapuaenuku , floating above the sea like a mirage.
Wellington is a wonderful place to set sail from, the skies are often wild, with weather rolling in from the seas which surround Cook Strait . Clouds pour across the sky and gulls follow the ferry like scattered pieces of torn paper flung above the boat.
Here's a photo of one of these skies, and here's another of a fishing boat heading out to the Strait, oh, and I like that one of the south coast layering off into the distance. So maybe I can put all of these scraps of memories into one painting which will express my mood as I leave?
Au Revoir, Wellington....
