In our family we tend to ignore the commercialisms of day like this. Instead, at some point during the day our kids will probably get in touch with their Dad and send their love. For our sons and son in laws I'm guessing that either the presents will be homemade or just time spent with the kids.
Dads are definitely important though - well, if it wasn't for them we wouldn't be here!
Your Dad is the person who doesn't mind you following around asking silly questions and getting underfoot. My Dad was in the background, there if I needed him but not attending to everyday problems like Mum did.
He was the line in the sand - what he said , went. Often leading to arguments as I grew up.
He was the rock behind me . I knew that he would always be there if I needed him, even if we didn't always agree.
I look at our kids and grandies and see glimpses of my Dad - a love of aviation, musical talent , creativeness, woodworking skills, stubbornness and a talent for bad jokes :)
To all you Dads out there I say.....don't worry about being perfect. Your job is to be a strong foundation for your kids and provide them with a store of special. memories that will last them a lifetime.
Treasure your dad - you won't have him for ever:)
